An Artists Communion Through A Lens

“Virginia Dare”

"Virginia Dare" - Sculptor Mary Louise Lander. Elizabethan Gardens, Manteo, N.C.

For my friends way up north who are buried under and completely tired of snow and cold.

Virginia Dare was the first child born in the Americas to English parents, August 18th, 1587.  What became of her and the rest of the Roanoke colony remains a mystery, the subject of the historical drama “The Lost Colony”.    This sculpture is only a few hundred yards from where the colonists landed, days before her birth.  Photographed in mid April, this part of the Elizabethan Gardens is an especially  peaceful place, lush and quiet with gentle breezes under massive Live Oaks.  Think spring.

I’m thinking spring!! Here in the middle of Texas we have several inches of snow and sub 0-16 deg. temps. The photo is great and very soothing. Really makes you yearn for Spring.
