Bittersweet

First saw this 10 years ago, 50 meters from a wonderful Jewish bakery where I impressed the owner with correct change

Rue des Roisers was deserted, unlike the  busy street I saw last month.  Lots of tourists like me.

It took no imagination then or since, to think I was standing there alone, as a Jew in 1943.  I have not been able to forget, every day since.

Dôme des Invalides

View from the Court of Honor

Sarcophagus of Napoleon Bonaparte

Altar of Dôme des Invalides

I wish my ashes to rest on the banks of the Seine among the people of France whom I so much loved

12 “Victories” surround the sarcophagus, symbolic of Napoleons campaigns

My steel tube was a Lafayette Class Polaris boat but the mission is still the same – never use them

Their weapons are indefensible and the consequences beyond comprehension

Victor 82

On 7 Dec. 1941, an act of war resulted in the flight of this aircraft, 6 Aug. 1945

My war was later, conducted in a different metal tube. Underwater.

It was a Cold War.  Had it been otherwise is unimaginable.
